Clay Civil Township Temporary Financial Assistance
Township Assistance is a unique governmental service provided by Townships in the State of Indiana, including the Clay Civil Township Trustee’s Office. Township assistance is generally referred to as temporary assistance because it is only used to provide a temporary or short-term remedy. Those individuals and families who apply for this assistance must prove that they are unable to provide for their basic needs through personal effort and that they have permanent residence in Clay Civil Township, St. Joseph County, Indiana.
Clay Civil Township strives to provide assistance in the most economical means possible. Those who do not meet the requirements are referred to other programs and are counseled on alternative community resources that may be available. We attempt to facilitate partnerships with local churches, food banks, grocery stores, and charitable organizations in our community. Township Assistance is a program that allows those with temporary personal needs the opportunity to apply for relief of their need(s) for food, clothing, shelter, utilities, and other basic necessities.
The Indiana state statute requires the completion of an application for assistance, a thorough investigation, and, when found eligible, assists in the most economical means available. In addition to demonstrating residency, those individuals and families who apply for this assistance must provide proof of income and expenses.
Assistance office hours are Monday thru Friday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Appointments are required and can be scheduled by calling 574-272-0955.
